Glycans mediate virtually all biological processes, such as cell-pathogen interaction, disease progression, and immune response modulation. Delivering therapeutic agents to alter these processes has been very challenging due to the exquisitely complex nature of the biological systems. Our focus is on Glycoimmunology and Nanoparticle-based Drug Delivery Systems (NDDS) to find the most suitable and efficient way of delivering these therapeutic agents, with minimal adverse effects and perturbation on the biological systems, by taking advantage of these mediator glycans. We have established a delivery platform that enabled us to evade endolysosomal sequestration during intracellular delivery and successfully allowed glycan-guided organelle targeting. Coupled with this platform, we aim to fine-tune this technique and design a unique and comprehensive delivery system using a ‘bottom-up’ approach (from intracellular to systemic delivery).
