BACKGROUND & SCOPE
This summer a large number of world-renowned Soft Matter Scientists will be congregating in Hokkaido, Japan as lecturers of Hokkaido University’s “International Soft Matter Summer School in Hokkaido.” We would like to take this opportunity to host a soft matter symposium which will be jointly organized by GI-CoRE (Hokkaido University) and ImPACT “Ito Program” (Cabinet Office, Government of Japan) to widely share their expertise, knowledge, and cutting-edge results of soft matter science and tough polymers. Oral sessions are invited talks by the summer school lecturers and “Ito Program” academic members. A poster session will be held for contributed papers. Don’t miss out! ORAL SESSION
INSTRUCTIONS Oral presentation will be 30 minutes in duration including time for discussion. Audio-visual equipment available during the presentation includes a multimedia projector. You are strongly encouraged to bring your own computer (PC/Mac). The electric supply in Hokkaido is 100 volts AC, 50Hz. To connect your computer to the projector, we will provide a VGA 15 pin male-to-male (sometimes also called a HD 15 pin male to male) cable. Please contact the technical assistant no later than during the 15-minute break before your section starts. It will be safe to bring a back-up copy such as a DVE/CD-ROM or a USB memory stick, in case something happens to your computer. When you use our computer (PC/Mac), please make sure your file is compatible with our computer equipment. Please contact the technical assistant no later than during the 15-minute break before your section starts. Our computers are running Windows 10 Pro with Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus (Word, Excel, & PowerPoint) or MaxOS X El Capitan (ver.10.11.6) with Microsoft Office for Mac ver. 15.24 (Word, Excel, & PowerPoint), and are equipped with a DVE/CD-ROM drive and a USB port drive. Please make sure you bring a backup copy in case something happens to your computer media.
POSTER SESSION
CALL FOR POSTERS (closed) A poster session will be held after the oral session on Tuesday, August 8. If you wish to make a poster presentation, please send us an abstract by the end of May. Poster topics should be of interest to professionals, researchers, and students in soft matter, polymer science, materials science, and related fields.
INSTRUCTIONS The abstract must be written in English and be prepared using standard PC-based MS Word software, and submitted in PDF format. Please limit all poster session submissions to one page. (abstract template MS Word | PDF) The poster board size is 176cm high x 86cm wide. If your poster is larger than that size, or is in a horizontal format (wider that 86cm), please make sure to let us know that when you submit the abstract.
Abstract submissions will be accepted by email to the symposium secretariat at gss@oia.hokudai.ac.jp. The subject line of the email must be “Hokkaido University – ImPACT Joint Symposium” and the file name should state the intended presenting author’s name. Please cleary indicate in the email text the contact details to whom all correspondence should be sent. The acceptance will be notified in June. If you wish to attend the banquet, please sign up in advance by the end of June (closed).
FEES & REGISTRATION
[Pre-registration] Participation in the symposium is free of charge, but pre-registration is required by sending an email (by the end of June) with your name, position, and affiliation to the symposium secretariat at gss@oia.hokudai.ac.jp. For international attendees, Global Station for Soft Matter, GI-Core provides a letter of invitation to Hokkaido University-ImPACT Joint Sympoium upon your request. For pre-registrants, please receive your name tag and the abstract booklet at the registration desk.
[Abstract booklet] We will compile presentation abstracts into an abstract booklet for distribution at the symposium. The abstract booklet will be distributed to pre-registered symposium participants only. Pre-registration deadline is Monday, July 10 (closed).

JR Line JR Hokkaido operates train services from the airport every 15 minutes during daytime. JR New Chitose Airport Station is located on the first basement level of the domestic terminal building. The JR Sapporo Station is 5-minute walk from Hokkaido University main gate.
Buses Take a bus to downtown Sapporo. The bus stops are located on the arrivals level of the domestic terminal building (bus stop #14 and #22) and the international terminal building (#65).
Taxi services Take a taxi to downtown Sapporo. The taxi stands are located on the arrivals level of the domestic terminal building (#11 and #17) and the international terminal building (#64). The cost of a taxi is often approximately ¥10,000.
