The Co-Creation Core for Soft Materials Aspiring Research & Translation (C3-SMART) was established in April 2025 under the leadership of the Faculty of Advanced Life Science at Hokkaido University.
Led by Associate Professor Takayuki Nonoyama, C3-SMART brings together a new generation of young researchers and aims to connect Hokkaido University’s globally recognized strengths in soft matter research with medicine, engineering, agriculture, fisheries, and field sciences. The center seeks to pioneer the development and fundamental study of next-generation soft materials and to contribute to solving diverse societal challenges through their practical implementation.
A kickoff meeting was held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at the Hokkaido University Conference Hall.
Twelve members and affiliates of the center gathered and gave presentations on their current research activities and the projects they hope to undertake through C3-SMART. The presentations covered a wide range of topics, including material development, manufacturing, medical applications, food, and environmental sustainability. A networking session followed the presentations, offering participants the chance to discuss future collaboration and ideas.
We look forward to the exciting developments to come from C3-SMART!
