Overview of Research

My research focuses on the bark, the outermost layer of trees, aiming to gain a fundamental understanding of its anatomical and chemical properties and functions from a biological perspective. Using techniques such as optical and electron microscopy to observe tissue and ultrastructure, antifungal assays, and chemical analyses to identify antifungal compounds, I analyze the microscopic world of bark as it truly is. Through this approach, I aim to elucidate the defense mechanism of bark against fungal invasion. Based on these fundamental insights, I also work on designing and developing novel materials that harness the unique properties of lignocellulosic biomass.

Message

As I broaden my knowledge through reading research papers and books, I especially value simple, fundamental questions that go beyond conventional thinking. I look forward to gaining new perspectives through conversations with researchers and students from different fields, and to conducting research with curiosity and creativity. If you are interested in trees, I would be very happy to work with you.
