Activity Report for Overseas Travel Support “Expanding Research Horizons in the UK: New Discoveries Through Cross-disciplinary Dialogue”

The Faculty of Advanced Life Science provides overseas travel support to its researchers to promote international networking, such as by organizing seminars abroad.

In September 2025, Assistant Professor Satomi Inaba-Inoue visited the University of Exeter and the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in the United Kingdom.

Expanding Research Horizons in the UK: New Discoveries Through Cross-disciplinary Dialogue

With the support of the Overseas Travel Grant from the Institute for Advanced Life Sciences, I had the opportunity to visit research institutions in the United to broaden the scope of my research and initiate new collaborations.

I also had a research seminar at the Living Systems Institute, University of Exeter, and was able to build an international network that went beyond my initial expectations.

The Living Systems Institute (LSI) is a relatively new and interdisciplinary research institute that brings together researchers in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and medicine.

In my seminar, I presented the latest findings from my research aimed at elucidating the structural and functional mechanisms of membrane transporters involved in drug uptake and efflux.

About 40 researchers, mainly from the LSI and the Medical School, attended the seminar, and I had the opportunity to engage in active discussions with participants from various fields.
