Overview of Research

Biochemistry is a research field of life science that has started on the basis of material existence of biomolecules such as proteins, lipids & carbohydrates. In the consideration of the molecular diversity of lipids in the biomolecules the sphingolipids also show the molecular diversity, but the fundamental reason is unknown. Moreover, biological functions of sphingolipids are highly-diversified with cellular development, immunity, cognition, and health maintenance, et al., but the biological significance of sphingolipids is not characterized as survival essential material but as survival supplementary/homeostatic material. As a consequence we conclude it is important to study the possibility of functional health supplements by taking advantages of biological features. The purpose of our research is that plant-derived ceramides may play roles in an improvement of neurological functions. The study is on going.

Message

We are studying the significance of the existence of lipids that are one category of biochemical materials. According to the recent development of AI and VR technology, life science has reached new dimension that biochemical materials can not be resolved by the traditional way of terminology and methodology in biology and chemistry. Following up the development of information/technology/knowledge in biochemistry included in advanced research field in science, it is significant for us to find out a real possible way included in interdisciplinary research.
