Overview of Research

Our research focuses on polymers and other soft matter in general to reveal the essential understanding of their structure, physical properties, and functions from the viewpoint of physical chemistry. We use experimental techniques such as scattering, rheology, and spectroscopy to precisely observe physical phenomena, and aim to elucidate the fundamental physical laws that govern the properties of materials. Based on the fundamental scientific knowledge thus obtained, we are also engaged in the design and development of new, unconventional, highly functional materials.

Message

Research is a dialogue (communication) with nature. By asking questions using a variety of method, nature sometimes gives us answers that are unexpected, surprising, and full of discoveries. The findings obtained in this way not only deepen our understanding of natural science, but also have the potential to lead to the creation of completely new functions and technologies. Observe well, doubt well, and think well. I look forward to working with you all to open up the “unknown” world that no one has yet seen.
