International Summer School of Soft Matter held at Cargese, France

International Summer School of Soft Matter, co-hosted by ESPCI (France), GI-CoRE (Hokkaido University, Japan), and CNRS (France), was successfully held at Cargese, France from July 11 to 22. Seventeen distinguished professors from France, Japan, USA, UK, and Greece delivered 37 lectures, and 76 graduate students and young researchers from 10 countries (France, Japan, USA, India, UK, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, Canada) participated the school.

Professor Jian Ping Gong and 4 visiting professors of Faculty of Advanced Life Science (Dr. Michael Rubinstein, Dr. Chung-Yuen Hui, Dr. Anke Lindner, and Dr. Tetsuharu Narita) gave lectures, covering the topics on polymer physics, mechanics of soft matter, microfluidics, dynamics of polymer solutions and gels, and hydrogel design. The lecture topics of the school also covered multi-scale structure analysis, gel simulations, soft surface and interface, etc.

2 Ph. D students (Ms. Feixue Lu and Mr. Masahiro Yoshida) from the Graduate School of Life Science, 4 young researchers from Faculty of Advanced Life Science (Assistant Professor Xueyu Li, Dr. Miléna Lama, Dr. Ryuji Kiyama) and ICReDD (Dr. Yong Zheng) participated the school and gave poster presentations. They had active discussions with the instructors and other attendees in the open atmosphere of Cargèse. Beside science, the participants spent a fruitful time through making new friends and enjoying the Mediterranean culture during this two-week school.
