M2 macrophages promote axon regeneration after peripheral nerve injury by secreting uPA to stimulate uPAR upregulated in injured axons.

A research group led by Yuki Matsui Clinical Fellow and Ken Kadoya specially appointed associate professor (Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Faculty of Medicine and Graduate School of Medicine, Hokkaido University) has confirmed that urokinase plasminogen activator(uPA) is involved in the axon regeneration effects of M2 macrophages and reported their findings in Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences.
