Overview of Research
From a material point of view, we notice that living things contain a lot of water and are in soft gel state. Why does not the creature consist of hard materials like machines? In order to understand the nature of living things scientifically I am studying artificial gels systematically, not living things themselves. If gel is a similar substance for understanding living things, it may be possible to make gels artificial tissues applicable to medical treatment. With such things in mind, I strive to understand the nature of soft & wet matter through creating an unbelievably tough gel from conventional gels, elucidating the toughening mechanism, and further evaluating the gel with high functionality such as shock absorption and self-healing.
