Overview of Research
My research interests are to elucidate the molecular mechanisms including the ion transport, the structural dynamics in the photochemical reaction, and the structure-function relationship of retinal-based photoreceptor proteins in microbes, called microbial rhodopsins. Through these, I pursue the goal of deeply understanding how ion-pumping rhodopsins can pump ions. Based on the findings from my study, I try to develop the proteins with novel light-driven functions.
