Overview of Research
Exosomes are small extracellular vesicles (40–100 nm in diameter) released from various types of cells that have recently emerged as a key player for the intercellular transport of molecules both in health and in disease conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease. Our previous studies showed that exosomes released from cultured neurons associate with amyloid-ß protein in extracellular space and are incorporated into microglia for degradation. We now study the effect of exosomal transport between neuron and microglia on waste clearance in extracellular space of brain.
